Children and seniors will benefit from fundraiser
Enforcing the law isn’t the only way the Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) looks out for the community.
This Christmas, the GCSO is doing a donation drive to provide gifts for children and seniors in need.
“This is the community that we live in and serve, so we want to continue that,” GCSO Administrative Assistant Melissa Waddell said.
For people of all ages, a small expression of love can mean the world. Christmas gifts are a way to show care for a stranger.
“It’s the season of giving, and GCSO is all in,” the office said in a press release.
The collected toys will be donated to Gilmer County Family Connection and distributed to kids ages birth to 18.
Other gifts will go to local seniors at the Parkside Nursing Home.
Participants must bring new and unwrapped gifts for this event.
For seniors, GCSO suggests donating bathrobes, nonslip socks, soft blankets, sugar-free candies, snacks, drinks, puzzles and more.
“If you’re out shopping and see something that’ll make a child’s eyes light up or bring a smile to a senior’s face — grab it, bag it and bring it by,” the GCSO wrote.
Those who buy gifts for the drive can donate them at the Gilmer County 911 Center Monday to Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“It’s just spreading Christmas magic,” said Waddell.
