The department will be closed Aug. 13-15
The Gilmer County Health Department (GCHD) is moving to a new location.
From Friday, Aug. 15, onward, the GCHD will be at 822 Industrial Blvd, Suite 100 in Ellijay.
While moving, the GCHD will be temporarily closed from Wednesday, Aug. 13, to Friday, Aug. 15.
For the last six decades, GCHD has operated out of 28 Southside Church Street.
“This move is about much more than a change of address — it’s about honoring our past while building a stronger, healthier future,” said Gilmer County Nurse Manager Krystal Sumner. “For nearly 60 years, we’ve been proud to serve this community from our Southside Street location.”
The new facility will offer larger clinical areas, improved parking and greater privacy for clients, a press release stated.
These expanded facilities will better fit a health program that has also grown in its mission.
Since its creation, GCHD has added early child care development services, children’s dental care, child safety programs and specialized screening and treatments.
Staff have learned to overcome language barriers so “all residents can receive needed services,” the press release stated.
Sumner invited everyone, no matter their need or background, to receive care at the clinic.
“Public health is about people, and this new space allows us to do more for every child, parent and neighbor who depends on us,” Sumner said. “We are grateful to our community for supporting public health, and we’re excited to welcome everyone to our new home.”
