Gilmer County Schools has earned Cognia Systems Accreditation for the next six years, recognizing their commitment to purposeful education for their more than 4,000 students.
Representatives from each of the district’s five schools, and the board, accepted Cognia certificates at the school board meeting Monday, March 17, from Federal Programs Director Lindy Patterson.
Cognia is a nonprofit that provides quality assurance for school districts by recognizing schools internationally that meet rigorous standards focused on productive learning environments, equitable resource allocation and effective leadership, according to a GCSS press release.
“It demonstrates to our community our commitment to excellence, our willingness to enact meaningful change based on evaluation and feedback and our desire to be the best we can be on behalf of the students that we serve,” GCSS Superintendent Dr. Brian Ridley stated in the press release.
To earn the accreditation, the district had to submit to internal and external review, meeting the Cognia performance standards and committing to continuous improvement. The accreditation can be maintained until 2031, if the schools remain in good standing.
