City having trouble finding provider for show
July Fourth may look and sound a lot less lively in downtown Ellijay this year.
The City of Ellijay is currently without a vendor to do the annual community fireworks show, confirmed Mayor Al Hoyle.
The city’s longtime fireworks show provider, Atlanta Pyrotechnics International, addressed a letter in January giving several reasons why they’re unable to do the show this year.
Reasons include difficulties in securing enough rental trucks to do all contracted shows for 2022, as well as rising costs of fireworks and importing freight containers.
Hoyle said he’s reached out to other fireworks companies, but, so far, there’s been no luck getting someone else to do the show.
“We cannot find anyone,” he said.
The letter from Atlanta Pyrotechnics mentioned that fireworks show companies are facing industrywide supply chain issues.
“I don’t think it’s just us,” said Hoyle about possibly having to cancel the show.
The city has not officially called off the fireworks display, but the way things are going right now, it doesn’t look likely to happen.
“We haven’t given up yet,” Hoyle said.
