It looks like Ellijay will have a fireworks show on the Fourth of July after all.
The City of Ellijay has been having trouble finding a fireworks vendor after the regular provider for the Independence Day show, Atlanta Pyrotechnics International, informed the city they were unable to do it this year due to various supply chain issues.
During a workshop before Monday’s Ellijay City Council meeting, Mayor Al Hoyle said the same company has since agreed to do the show.
“We’ve been going back and forth on fireworks, but I’ve stayed in touch with our previous provider, and he has guaranteed fireworks. He got a shipment in from China and has been able to secure some trucks, so we will be having the Fourth of July fireworks show,” he added.
The price of the fireworks has gone up, Hoyle said. The Gilmer Chamber has agreed to contribute $5,000 to help with the increased costs, he noted.
“With that, we’re in good shape,” Hoyle said.
