Highland Crossing just got 5 miles per hour slower
Drivers should slow down in the future on Highland Crossing.
East Ellijay’s city council read a new speed limit ordinance for the first time Wednesday July 16.
The ordinance would post a speed limit for Highland Crossing.
Previously, the road had no speed limit posted, public safety director Larry Callahan said. On roads without a posted speed limit, the city speed limit is 30 miles per hour.
The new posted speed limit would be 25 miles per hour, he said.
“We’ve had some concerns brought to us about the speed of vehicles on Highland Crossing,” Mayor Don Callihan said.
The ordinance would also revise East Ellijay’s laws so the city council could change speed limits with a resolution.
“We don’t have to go through this whole ordinance process again. We can have a resolution, vote one month and move on,” Callahan said.
City ordinances require multiple read-throughs before they can go into effect.
Resolutions can go into effect quicker.
