Local elections are coming up, and early voting has already opened.
Although local elections might not always appear in national news, they can have a major impact on your life. Many important decisions are made on the county and local level.
Advanced voting opened Tuesday, Oct. 14 and continues every day except Sunday until Friday, Oct. 31.
People can vote early anytime between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1 Broad Street, Suite 107 of the Gilmer County Courthouse.
This year features a special election for the General Public Service Commissioners in Georgia Districts Two and Three. It also features a vote to renew a 1 percent SPLOST sales tax for six years to pay back bonds for several capital outlay projects. This SPLOST vote would also include approval to issue general obligation debt up to $25,000,000 to pay for county projects.
The election is Tuesday, Nov. 4. On election day, voting is open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at your registered precinct in Gilmer County.
To vote, citizens must have registered by Monday, Oct. 6. They must also present a valid state or federal government-issued ID or valid tribal photo ID.
