A crucial need for diapers by clients of social services has been announced by the local Cooperative Extension Service office.
A “Diaper Drive Supporting Gilmer County DFACS (Department of Family and Children Services)” is underway the entire month of August, according to a flyer circulating in the community.
“Donate one or two packs (or more) of diapers, with at least one of those being size three, four or five,” the flyer states. A drop-off location has been set up during weekday working hours (8 a.m. – 5 p.m.) at the Gilmer Extension Service office at 1123 Progress Road in Ellijay. Donations of diapers can also be picked up by contacting Nancy Adams at the Extension office, 706-635-4426 or by email at nancy.adams@uga.edu.
“(This is) a need I was made aware of through others that I work closely with, and I think my like-minded friends and other organizations and businesses would agree that we have a special magic here where Gilmer Countians take care of those in need in Gilmer,” said Adams, who notes she is not on the board of directors for DFACS.
“If one or two packs of diapers from even a small sector of our local businesses and organizations get donated, DFACS can receive a mountain of donations to support this very specific need! I hear that the larger sizes are most crucial, but any diapers will do.”
Adams suggested that organizations, businesses or other groups who join the cause take photos with boxes of their diaper donations and send them to her, so they can be used in a future DFACS presentation.
When contacted, DFACS County Director Jennifer Farmer responded that “Our HR (human resources) department will not allow us to contribute any stats of info for any articles at this time.”
Adams mentioned that the post about the Diaper Drive for DFACS on the UGA Extension–Gilmer County Facebook page may be shared on Facebook users’ personal pages.
