Gilmer County commissioners are spending $8,128,249 to pave 44 roads this summer.
The board awarded the final bid for tar-and-chip paving of 30 roads at a special called meeting June 27, to put the final piece in place.
Along with the 30 roads, Gilmer County has awarded bids to pave 14 other roads as part of a mix of a supplemental plan and regular scheduled paving.
As part of a Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG) from the state, Gilmer County will spend $961,903 to pave eight roads. A 30 percent match of $221,977 from the county is included in the figure.
Another $3,389,517 will be spent to asphalt pave six more roads, including Yukon Road.
The tar-and-chip bid for the final 30 roads totals $3,776,828.
Colditz Trucking Inc. will perform the asphalt paving, and Colwell Construction Company Inc. will be responsible for the tar-and-chip paving.
Paving is set to begin in July.
