Two Gilmer County departments received new directors following a brief closed session.
Following the Board of commissioners regular meeting Aug. 11, Chair Charlie Paris requested a closed session.
Coming out of the closed session, he announced the leadership swap.
First, Jim Smith, director of public works, was swapped to being the director of planning and zoning.
Karen Henson, the current director of planning and zoning, was moved to be his assistant.
Filling the role at public works was Ryan Steingruber who moved from assistant director to director.
Smith previously held a similar position with the county. Similarly, Steingruber filled in for Smith during an absence.
Steingruber is scheduled to receive an increase in pay due to his promotion. The other two will remain at the same pay according to Paris.
