Gilmer County has an official operating budget for 2023.
Commissioners passed the 2023 budget at a special meeting Jan. 20, by unanimous vote.
Gilmer County’s maintenance and operations budget for 2023 will be $39,921,978. This is $8 million more than the $31,783,762 for 2022.
Of the $8 million increase, roughly $3.3 million was added to the public safety budget, while public works received $1.3 million more for 2023.
A public hearing was held for the proposed budget Jan. 12. Public comment dealt with the need to repair the bridges on Rock Creek Road.
At the meeting where the budget was approved, commissioners decided to retain an engineering firm to assess bridges and suggest a plan for repairs.
Commissioners suggested working with the firm which assessed bridges previously for the county, Moreland Altobelli Associates Inc.
