Ellijay’s community trick or treat festivities will once again be held at Harrison Park this year.
Trick or treating at the park will begin at 1 p.m. and last until 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct,. 28.
“It will be like (in previous years). We’ll have businesses with tents set up where they can come walk through and get candy,” said Adina Elfaituri, event organizer.
The Halloween festivities were initially expected to move to River Park on South Main Street this year. Since another event, the Dancing Goats Folkfest, will also be taking place there the same weekend, it was decided that they will remain at Harrison Park for at least one more go-round.
The community trick or treating transitioned from being done around the downtown Ellijay square and River Street to Harrison Park, on McCutchen Street, in 2020 amid the COVID pandemic. It’s been held there ever since and has seen a strong turnout each year, Elfaituri confirmed.
“This will be my fourth year doing it. We usually have about 4,000 people and about 2,000 kids,” she added.
Trick or treaters are welcome to come in costume, and the event team will be handing out trick-or-treat bags as long as supplies will allow, Elfaituri noted. Local businesses, organizations and churches can still sign up to be part of the festivities and hand out candy. Elfaituri can be reached at 706-502-4729 for more details.
Donations of bagged candy for the event are also still being accepted. Those donations can be dropped off at the Remax Town and Country office on Craig Street in East Ellijay, Elfaituri noted.
Parking for the trick-or-treat event will be available at the old Ellijay Primary School and Ellijay Elementary School lots. Elfaituri said overflow parking will be at First United Methodist Church.
