- Gilmer Arts’ 11th annual Plein Air was a success, where 37 artists painted serene landscapes around the county, from May 15-18. Sunday morning, artists could participate in a Quick Draw competition at Hidden Valley, where they had just two hours to complete their piece, including long-time Plein Air participant Marti Trimble. - The weekend of painting ended with an auction at the playhouse Sunday afternoon, where bidding wars broke out over buyers’ favorite framed canvases. Artists received 65 percent of commission from their work sold, and 35 percent is kept by the nonprofit, to help fund their new gallery being built next to the playhouse in downtown Ellijay. So far, 43 out of 94 paintings completed during Plein Air have been sold, according to volunteer coordinator Randy Simpson. (Lauren Sabia/Reporter)
- Any paintings by Plein Air artists that were not sold at auction can still be purchased to support Gilmer Arts. They will be displayed over the next month at the current gallery, located at 207 Dalton St. in Ellijay. Community members and visitors can check those out Tuesday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Lauren Sabia/Reporter)
