Residents no longer have to boil their water
A boil water advisory for Gilmer County residents in the Yukon Road area has been lifted.
The advisory was lifted as of 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13. People who were affected should run all faucets for a minimum of two minutes before using tap water.
The Ellijay-Gilmer County Water and Sewerage Authority (EGCWSA) lifted the advisory following lab tests on the water in affected areas.
A power company damaged a water main while replacing a power pole on Jan. 11, EGCWSA announced in a press release.
“They didn’t do it on purpose, and we’re just trying to keep everything safe,” EGCWSA Director Gary McVey said.
As a result of the damage, water pressure dipped to low levels. This dip created the possibility that the water supply has been contaminated with microbes. Out of an abundance of caution, people in the affected areas were told to avoid drinking tap water and to boil water for other uses.
Some of the areas affected include the following:
• Old Bennett Road
• Sally Circle
• River Lane
• Riverbottom Road
• Old Orchard Road (The Bluffs of Cartecay)
• Overhanging Rock Rd.
• Whispering Oaks
• Ridgehaven Trail
• Ridgeview Trail
• Oakridge Lane
• Sunset Drive
