Gilmer County commissioners will hold a town hall-style meeting on the proposed county pool.
The meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 10, at 5 p.m. in the Jury Assembly room at the county courthouse.
“I’ve been promising for a year that we would have a town hall on the pool,” said Gilmer County Chair Charlie Paris.
Commissioners will take questions about the pool and will have handouts with the design.
Common questions Paris has been receiving are about how many lanes the pool will have and about the diving well.
“We’re talking about a diving board which is 9 inches above the walking deck,” Paris said.
Some speculation on social media was about a diving tower, which he said is not the plan.
Right now the design involves the diving well area which will be 11 feet deep. The majority of the pool will be in the 5 foot range, and ropes can be put in for competition and swimming practice.
A separate wading pool with a zero entry portion is also part of the design.
“I think we are possibly looking at pushing $2 million total,” Paris said about construction costs at the last meeting.
Commissioners are looking at some of the budget for the community pool to be paid from an increase in the hotel/motel/lodging tax.
A board of commissioner’s regular meeting will follow the town hall at 6 p.m.
