Team Cartecay has strong showing at Road Atlanta

Muddy conditions set the stage for the Georgia Cycling Association Eastern Division Championship Race, dubbed the Raceway Race. 

The Oct. 21 championship was held at Road Atlanta in Braselton, home of the Fox Factory Trail System. Team Cartecay’s race squads showed up ready to display the results of all their hard work and practice.

Middle school boys set the tone for the day with fast and furious races. In the sixth-grade boys race, Leo Alonso (Cartecay) put in an impressive performance to place 14th. The seventh-grade boys showed a glimpse of the team’s bright future with Justice Giet (Cartecay) placing 12th, Miles Slemons (Cohutta) 14th, Nico Cianciolo (Cohutta) 24th and Beau Tate (Cohutta) 25th.         

Freshman Asher Sullivan (Cartecay) made a strong showing finishing 45th. Senior David Sullivan (Cartecay) and Dontay Adams (Cohutta) put in stellar performances with 14th and 17th places in the JV-2 boys category. Other JV-2 category finishes included Hunter McCree (Cohutta) 47th, Braeden Broyles (Gilmer Cycling) 56th and Micah Slemons (Cohutta) 64th.

The high school girls of Team Cartecay all landed in the top 15 spots, with podium finishes by freshman Bella Cianciolo (5th place - Cohutta)  and JV-1 Clare Moore (5th place - Cartecay). 

Also, freshman Jubilee Giet came in 10th and Senior Petra Giet completed her JV2 race in 11th place.

The Eastern Conference Championship concluded with Conference Series Awards. Team Cartecay finishedin third place overall, with Cianciolo and Moore both receiving fifth place overall point series awards. 

The following high school athletes qualified for state: Asher Sullivan, Bella Cianciolo, Ryley Fields, Jubilee Giet, Dontay Adams, David Sullivan, Hunter McCree, Brayden Harbin, Petra Giet, Jayden Calabretta, Clare Moore and Evangelina Giet. 

Next stop for the team was in Rome for the state championship race at Kingston Downs.
