Mr. Gregory Alan Anderson, loving husband and father, passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2022, at the age of 65 years.

He was born July 3, 1957, to the late Joseph  Anderson and Carol Anderson.  He was a graduate of Gilmer High School and received a Bachelor of Parks and Recreation Degree from North Georgia College (the University of North Georgia).

He began his professional career as the assistant director of parks and recreation at Dellinger Park in Cartersville under the supervision of W.K. Gentry.  At the retirement of Mr. Gentry, he was approved by the Cartersville City Council as the new director.  During his tenure, he saw the expansion of Dellinger Park to include new softball and soccer fields, gymnastic programs, the senior aquatic program, bike paths and hiking trails. He enjoyed his 38 years with the City of Cartersville Park and Recreation Department and often stated he never had a bad day.

He was extensively involved with several boards and programs that benefited children and families.   The Bartow/Cartersville Green Space initiative, Georgia Parks and Rec Athletic Committee, Etowah Valley Credit Union board and the Bartow United Way to name a few.  He often stated that “if it was good for kids, it was worth doing.”

Throughout his employment tenure, Greg received numerous awards. The most memorable prior to his death was the action of the Cartersville City Council to rename the Pine Mountain Trail to the Greg Anderson Trail System at Pine Mountain. He was greatly honored and appreciative of the award.

He leaves behind wife of 31-plus years, Kathy; son, Nicolas Anderson; mother, Carol Anderson; brother, Jeff Anderson; sister, Hope (Ron) Cantrell; and many nieces and nephews.  He loved his family, and he will be sorely missed by all those he had to leave behind.

A celebration of life service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022, in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Harris officiating.

Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Donations can be made to the Bartow County United Way.
