Mrs. Edith Fair Woody Hensley, 83, gained her heavenly reward Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022, at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.

She was born July 6, 1939, in the Pisgah community of Ellijay. She was the youngest daughter of the late Joe Brown and Mollie Woody. She was a lifelong resident of Gilmer County, a faithful member of the Ellijay Church of Christ, a loving mama to her children and a beloved “Nene” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by husband of 43 years, Delmer “Bus” Hensley, in 2005; and sister, Esta Woody, of Forks, Wash.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Beverley and Barry Abernathy, of Ellijay; sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Mary Hensley, of Ellijay, and Garry and Rachael Hensley, of Jasper; special bonus daughter, Tonya Davis Colwell, of Ellijay; grandchildren, Kevin Hensley, of Almond, N.C., April Evans, Chassady, Emma, Tyler and Zoey Abernathy, all of Ellijay; Kala Messer, of Talking Rock; four great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Bernadine, Evelyn and Vira Hensley, and Readell Holland, Teresa Parker and Bonnie Smith; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 18, 2022, from the chapel of Bernhardt Funeral Home with ministers Jeremy Green, Spencer Hall and Butch Jones officiating.

Interment was in the Ellijay Church of Christ Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Barry Abernathy, Landon Burton, Ronald Colwell, Brandon Evans, Kevin Hensley, Jacob Jenkins and Jason Ledford.

Honorary pallbearers were her nephews.
