The Gilmer Bobcat Wrestling Club made its way to the Georgia Novice Championships last Sunday.
The event is specifically designed for first- and second-year wrestlers to face opponents of similar skill levels. Gilmer entered wrestlers of multiple ages and 14-under grapplers won their division.
Ten 14U Bobcats earned a top-four placement, and Aldin Tiniguar (115 pounds) and Israel Francisco (170) were champions.
Gilmer’s Atalin Chastain (260-285), Bryson Shubin-Gibbs (160), Christopher Madden (170), Elias Ramirez (140), Juan Lopez (130-135) and Koby Kincaid (85) were finalists as well and took home second-place medals. Alex Raymundo (115) and Jerson Lopez (190) placed in third and fourth place, respectively.
In 12U, Domingo Velasquez (112) took first place and Carter Ortis (75) was third. Dawson Duncan (42-45) was a runner-up in the 8U age division, and Madden Hopkins (110) placed third in 10U.

Isaiah Goodwin was the champion of 10U’s 100-pound weight class. In 8U, Parker Settel (88-100) was a runner-up and Keigan Brookshire (73) placed third.
