Gilmer rec football hosted six games at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium last Saturday.
Three different opponents made the trip, and Gilmer’s teams combined to post a 3-3 record.
First graders earned one of those wins to start the day over Union County, 14-0. Second graders pitched a shutout as well against Chestatee, 42-0.
The fifth-grade Bobcats led Pickens 20-18 to start the third quarter and extended their lead to 27-18 after Silas West’s 60-yard touchdown run. The Dragons responded on the first play of their next series with a 70-yard touchdown pass.
Pickens also added a conversion and drew within a point, down 27-26 with 7:24 left in the game. The Dragons were then able to hold the Bobcats on downs at Gilmer’s 44. However, Bobcat Cal Morrison was there to force a Pickens fumble and recovered the ball at midfield.
Gilmer took over offensively and earned a first down to drain the final 2:30 off the clock to secure a one-point victory.
In the third-grade game, Gilmer fell to Pickens, 24-0, and the fourth-grade Cats lost to Chestatee, 33-6. The sixth-grade matchup concluded the Bobcats’ season with a 44-0 loss to Union County.
Five Gilmer teams will take the field Saturday for the final games of the regular season at Lumpkin County versus the Indains. First graders kick off the day at 9 a.m. and will be followed by second (10:30 a.m.), third (noon), fourth (1:30 p.m.) and fifth (3 p.m.) games.
