Gilmer High was in Dalton to begin the new year, and the Bobcats and Lady Cats squared off against three other teams.
The quad swim meet was held last Thursday, and in addition to the host Catamounts and Gilmer, swimmers from Pickens and Dalton Academy were also in attendance.
Eight GHS swimmers competed on the day, and Bobcats Jacob Kucera and Cheyne Smith secured the best placements. Kucera turned in a time of 24.55 for a runner-up finish in the 50-yard freestyle, while Smith clocked in at 25.46 for third. Kucera also claimed fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.23), and Smith placed sixth in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:20.48.
In the 200-yard medley relay, Kucera and Smith were joined by Clifford Defoor and Conner Defoor. They posted a time of 2:29.62 for third and were fourth in the 200 free relay in 2:18.75.
In the 100 free, Conner placed sixth (1:33.17) and Clifford was seventh (1:41.21). In the 50 free, their respective results were 15th place (38.75) and 16th (42.61).
All four Lady Cats entered the 50 free, and Yana Jones was Gilmer’s No. 1 swimmer in fourth place (32.18). Next up was Evan May (fifth place, 32.19), Elizabeth Kucera (seventh, 32.75) and Lana Ginger (12th, 46.48).
Kucera also nabbed fifth place in the 100-yard backstroke (1:25.93), and May landed in seventh at 1:30.10. In the 100 free, Jones was sixth (1:21.49) and Ginger finished in eighth place (1:40.67).
The Lady Cats competed in both relays. They teamed up for third place in the 200 free (2:23.62) and were fourth in the 200 medley (2:45.43).
The Bobcats and Lady Cats head to Calhoun High School Saturday for the Northwest Georgia Championships.
