Gilmer wrestlers earn belts ahead of state tourney

Two Gilmer youth wrestlers earned their champion’s belt last weekend.

The Gilmer Bobcat Wrestling Club attended the Trion Mat Dog Battle for the Belt Tournament, which concluded the belt series held during the USA Wrestling season.

Receiving a champion’s belt in the 10-under division is Gilmer’s Isaiah Goodwin (100 pounds) and 8U’s and Parker Settel (88-100).

Goodwin and Keigan Brookshire (76) both finished atop their weight classes at the event.

Goodwin and Settel secured their belts by attending six tournaments during the season and tallying points based on their finishes.

Once all regular-season tournaments were over, wrestlers with the most points in each age group and weight class earned a champion’s belt that will be awarded at Sunday’s state tournament in Perry.

In addition to Goodwin, Brookshire and Settel, Bobcats Dawson Duncan and Gauge Crump will also attend the state tournament.
