Gilmer swimmers continue improvements

Gilmer swimmers were in Cartersville for their latest meet of the summer.

The Bobcats took on the host Cobias and Pickens Sea Dragons at Dellinger Park. Twenty-one Gilmer swimmers were in attendance, and the meet was the third of the season.

In the 15-18 age group, Esther Bowman won the 50-yard breaststroke (41.63) and placed second in the 50 free (30.50). Yana Jones took fourth in both the 50 breast (46.46) and 50 free (34.10), while Brooklyn Wise was sixth in the 50 free (52.10). The trio were members of the 200 mixed medley relay team who placed second in 2:39.84.

Addison Potter swam in the 13-14 age bracket and was seventh in the 50 free (54.12) and eighth in the 100 free (2:00.56).

Kaley Best, Sophia DeMarco and Lilly Jones faced swimmers in the 11-12 age division. They were members of the first place 200 mixed medley relay team with a time of 23.97. Jones also won the 100 free (1:45.22) and 50 free (46.99), and she was a runner-up in the 50 breast (1:02.57).

DeMarco won the 50 breast in 42.19. Best claimed fourth in  both the 100 free (1:55.34) and 50 free (52.57). 

Jacey Burney, Braylee Green, Ava Williamson and Breelin Coleman won the 9-10-year-old 100 medley relay at 1:51.72. Burney was first in the 25 free (18.63) and was followed by Williamson (fifth, 22.06) and Green  (ninth, 24.84).  Green finished eighth (34.19) and Williamson was ninth (44.09) in the 25 breast.

Coleman competed in the 7-8-year-old division individually and placed second in the 25 free (28.96) and third in the 25 breast (33.47).

Kathryn Edelson was third in the 25 breast (27.59) and eighth in the 25 free (23.69) among 9-10-year olds.

Scarlett Edelson was Gilmer’s lone 6U swimmer, and she finished the 25 free in 44.53 for second.

Bobcat Ronald Sturgis was a member of Gilmer’s runner-up mixed medley relay team. He was a three-time winner in the 100 free (1:03.06), 50 free (26.06) and 50 breast (34.13).

Rylee Fountain (13-14) placed third in the 100 free (1:25.97) and landed in fourth in the 50 free (35.75.)  Silas Wilson (11-12) was a member of the winning mixed medley relay (3:23.97). He was a runner-up in the 50 breast (57.97) and sixth in the 50 free (46.34). 

Emmett Patterson swam against 11-12-year old swimmers as well and placed sixth in the 50 breast (1:18.91) and eighth in the 50 free (54.35). Grayson Patterson (9-10) was the runner-up in the 25 breast (33.16), and he finished third in the 25 free (24.22). 

Asher Faulk (7-8) was the No. 1 swimmer in the 25 breast at 39.28, and he claimed second in the 25 free (31.90). Elias Baron (6U) finished second in the 25 free (1:03.50).

Gilmer returns to the pool Thursday for a 6 p.m. meet at the Cherokee Aquatic Center.
