The Northwest Georgia Swim and Dive Championships attracted 22 teams to the Calhoun Aquatic Center.
The event was held last Saturday, and Gilmer High School swimmers combined for 11 finals finishes high enough to score team points.
The Bobcats and Lady Cats combined team score placed GHS 15th overall. Separately, the Lady Cats and Bobcats each finished 13th in the girls and boys standings, respectively.
Lady Cat sophomore Payton Woodring was the top 100-yard breaststroke swimmer. Her first-place time of 59.37 led Jefferson’s Janie Davis by just under a second.
Woodring was a runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle at 54.99, which was two hundredths of a second behind Jefferson’s Katherine Law.
Bobcat Connor Mohon placed 11th in the 200- freestyle (2:10.74) and 100-yard butterfly (1:01.74) for Gilmer’s next highest individual placements.
Gilmer’s Isaiah Sharpe was 12th in the 100 butterfly at 57.47 and 14th in the 200 individual medley in 2:39.33. Lady Cat Aniston Fowler turned in a time of 2:37.11 in the 200 freestyle for 13th place.
In relays, Lady Cats Angel Guidry, Cadence Mohon, Woodring and Fowler finished 14th in the 200 medley (2:18.69). Mary Parks and Kaitlyn Grice joined Fowler and Woodring for 20th in the 200 freestyle relay (2:07.19).
Bobcats Sharp, Larz Fowler, Mohon and Cole Ellis clocked in at 2:05 for 16th in the 200 medley relay, and they placed 19th in the 200 freestyle in 1:48.63.
Also qualifying for the 50 freestyle finals but falling short of scoring team points were Gilmer’s Ellis (28.11), Kaden Little, (28.41), Larz Fowler (28.71), Ty Cox (36.52), Guidry (32.52), Parks, (34.23), Grice (34.39), Shyanne Little (37.09) and Sadie Bryan (37.40).
Aniston Fowler competed in the 100 butterfly (1:24.66), and 100 freestyle swimmers were Ellis (1:04.98), Kaden Little (1:07.93), Cox (1:22.13), Parks (1:21.42), Grice (1:23.09), Bryan (1:24.68) and Shyanne Little (1:26.74).
In the 100 backstroke, were Guidry (1:28.44) and Larz Fowler (1:22.97). Gilmer’s 100 breaststroke finals time was secured by Cadence Mohon (1:36.59)
The 200 free relay team of Shyanne Little, Guidry, Bryan and Cadence Mohon finished in 2:26.67.
Next up will be the North Georgia Championships Saturday at Dalton High School.
