The Gilmer High Lady Cats were saddled with a pair of region losses last week.
The Cats were in North Hall Thursday, and the Trojans mounted a last-inning comeback for a 5-4 victory.
Gilmer was missing three starters and multiple backups versus Dawson Saturday. Defensive struggles persisted for the Cats, and the Tigers claimed a 12-0 win in four innings.
The Lady Cats were up 4-0 with the bases loaded full of Trojans in the bottom of the seventh inning.
With two outs and victory within their grasp, a Lady Cat error plated the Trojans’ first run and kept their hopes alive. An ensuing single to right field added a second run, and eventual throwing error scored two more to tie the game, 4-4. NHHS claimed its walk-off victory with an ensuing base hit to left field.
Before the Trojans’ rally, GHS struck in the fourth inning off a Taylor Elliott solo homer to center. Zoey Woody singled home a pair of Gilmer runs in the sixth.
The Cats used some small-ball tactics after Jacie Bennett led off the seventh with a single. Alaina Miltiades’ bunt advanced Bennett to second, and she moved to third when Maddie Wright reached base on a error. Tori Hughes’ sacrifice bunt scored Bennett for Gilmer’s fourth run ahead of North Hall’s comeback.
GHS was without infielders Elliott and Macy Hamby and outfielder Jocelyn Birko Saturday morning against Dawson County. GHS committed seven errors in the game and only two of the Tigers’ runs were earned. DCHS scored three first-inning runs, plated four more in the second and added five in the fourth to bring the game to an end.
The Cats were out hit 11-2, and Carly Chadwick and Wright each had one for GHS. Woody pitched and struck out five.
Gilmer hosted White County Monday night ahead of press deadline, and the Cats were limited to three hits in a 6-0 loss.
A two-run homer scored two runs for WCHS in the first, while an error with two runners on base added a third run in the fourth. A bases-loaded single plated two more for a 5-0 Warrior edge. White’s final run came on a fielder’s choice in the fifth.
Wright, Chadwick and Birko all had a hit for the Cats, who fell to 2-12. GHS hosts West Hall Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
