Gilmer High was in Jasper last Thursday for a pair of nonregion volleyball wins.
The Lady Cats took out host and rival Pickens, as well as the Cass Colonels, 2-0.
GHS controlled both matches and improved its seasonal record to 7-2. The Cats clawed PHS for wins of 25-18 and 25-17 and Cass 25-17 and 25-12.
“These two were some satisfying wins, and you always like to win when playing a rival school,” coach Donna Parks said.
Gilmer’s statistical leaders against Pickens included: aces- Emma Deyton, Hope Colwell (two each), Adrian Thompson, Taylor McCormick and Emma Callihan (one apiece). Kills- Elly Callihan (11), Deyton (four), Beth Burnette, Emma Callihan, Kadie Weaver and McCormick (three apiece).
Also, Emma Callihan had 14 assists and Burnette had 11. Dig leaders included Burnette, Deyton, Emma Callihan (seven each) and Colwell and Elly Callihan (four apiece).
Versus Cass: aces- Thompson (two). Kills- Deyton (nine), Elly Callihan (six), Weaver and McCormick (five each) and Emma Callihan (three). Assists- Emma Callihan (15) and Burnette (11). Digs- Colwell and Burnette (seven each), Emma Callihan (four), Emma Deyton (three) and Thompson (two).
The junior varsity Cats lost to Pickens (24-14, 25-17) but earned a win over Cass (25-16, 25-12).
GHS traveled to Cherokee Bluff at press deadline and will make its way to Fannin County High School Thursday for matches beginning at 5 p.m.
