GHS swimmers return to Calhoun for 7-team meet

Gilmer High School was back in Calhoun last Tuesday along with six other swim teams.

The meet was the program’s penultimate event of the regular season as swimmers were looking to achieve qualifying times ahead of the state meet.

The Bobcats and Lady Cats each achieved eight placements to tally points toward the team score. The Bobcats finished third in the boys standings while the Lady Cats took fourth.

In individual events, Bobcat Law Lykins claimed the top spot for GHS. He placed second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.56, which was six hundredths of a second from qualifying for state. He also finished fifth in the 100 butterfly in 1:08.91.

Lady Cat Morgan White landed in third in the 200 free at 2:48.67 and was fourth in the 100 free in 1:12.60.

Cole Ellis clocked in at 1:04.66 for fourth place in the 100 free. Cadence Mohon turned in a time of 8:51.74 for fifth place in the 500 free. Kaden Little secured fifth in the 100 backstroke in 1:22.41.

In relays, the 200 free Lady Cat quartet of White, Kaitlyn Grice, Lykins and Sierra Ellis placed third in 2:18.42. Grice, Mohon, Sierra Ellis and Olivia Lykins nabbed fourth in the 400 free relay with a time of 5:36.73.

Bobcats Cole Ellis, Logan Ellis, Ty Cox and Little teamed up for a third-place finish in the 400 free (4:47.04). In the 200 free, Lykins, Cole Ellis, Logan Ellis and Little landed in fifth place in 1:55.05.

Olivia Lykins placed seventh in the 50 free (32.23), and Grice was behind her in eighth (33.62). Grice also finished eighth in the 100 free (1:18.15), Cole Ellis took  ninth in the 50 free (27.02), and Cox finished in the same position in the 100 free (1:12.81).
