Gilmer High took the court for a final volleyball tune-up before this week’s region tournament.
The GHS Cats traveled to Chestatee last Tuesday to take on the War Eagles. After dropping a match to Chestatee 2-1 earlier this season, Gilmer notched a 3-0 victory.
The Cats won the match with set victories of 25-14, 25-12 and 25-18. Junior Elly Callihan broke her previous GHS kill record and the mark now stands at 20.
Remaining Lady Cat kills were collected by Emma Deyton (seven), Taylor McCormick (four) and Kadie Weaver (two), while Emma Callihan and Beth Burnette provided 23 and eight assists, respectively.
The Cats’ serve proved to be weapon as they scored 10 aces on the day. Hope Colwell and Deyton had three apiece and Burnette and Adrian Thompson both had two.
Deyton and Burnette were there for respective dig tallies of 15 and 12, while Emma Callihan provided nine and Colwell had eight.
Gilmer is 19-7 overall and entered Wednesday’s region tournament at White County High School as the No. 4 seed. Gilmer will take the court at 4 p.m. against Dawson County in the first round.
To reach the Class 3A state tournament, GHS will need to finish in the top four at the event.
