Gilmer High cross-country raced its way up the standings at last week’s Run the Hills meet in Blairsville.
The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats were one of six teams in their respective races. The Bobcats won a tiebreaker over Union County for first. The Lady Cats were edged by one point by Lumpkin County and settled for second.
Three of five Bobcat point scorers placed in the top 10 of the boys 5K. Carson Purvis placed second overall and was followed by teammates Dylan Byrd (fourth), John Nix (ninth), Michael Little (16th) and John Keener (20th).
Three Lady Cats claimed top 10 finishes as well, and Naomi Coombs was the girls runner-up. Gilmer’s Madison Stanley was next in fourth place and Amalia Perez-Escobar finished ninth. Mallory Henson and Laney Hensley crossed the finish line in 18th and 30th, respectively.
Next up will be the North Georgia Championships Sept. 24 at Clear Creek Middle School.
