Eighth-grade Lady Cats trounce Tigers, 42-22

Clear Creek Middle School faced the Dawson County Tigers last Monday for their final basketball games prior to Christmas break.

The seventh-grade Lady Cats were defeated 32-27 before CCMS eighth graders came out on top, 42-22.

The seventh-grade Cats took the court first, and Chelsey Griggs was there for four points in the opening quarter for CCMS. Dawson took a 9-7 lead into the second quarter where Clear  Creek’s Madison Hall hit her first of three shots from behind the three-point arc. Jaylee McDaniel added two more points, and the Tigers held an 18-12 lead at halftime.

Dawson’s offense hit a snag in the third quarter and Hall was there for two more three pointers. With two more points from Griggs, a basket by Sarah Dale allowed CCMS to tie the score at 22-all with a quarter to play.

But in the fourth, the Tigers were able to double the Cats’ offensive production to come away with a 32-27 victory.

Hall led CCMS with nine points and both McDaniel and Griggs scored six. Bree Burnette scored three on the day, Dale added two and Addie Vick finished with one point.

The eighth-grade CCMS duo of Aliza Chastain and Burnette were more than the Tigers could handle. Chastain led all scorers with 22 points and Burnette finished with 13.

Chastain and Brunette combined to score 13 of the Cats’ 15 points in the first. Grace Bramlett was there for the other two as CCMS roared ahead, 15-6.

Both teams struggled offensively in the second quarter, and Clear Creek led 17-10 at the half. Burnette made a three pointer in the third, and Chastain drained three more deep baskets to get the offense rolling. They scored all 16 CCMS points in the quarter and pushed its advantage to 34-20.

Dawson only scored two points in the fourth and the Cats added eight more to secure their 20-point victory.

Bramlett scored four points for Clear Creek, Kamryn Baxter netted two and Madison Bradshaw added one.
