Clear Creek defended its league wrestling titles once again last week.
The Bobcats attended the annual league duals Friday in Union County and returned the following day for the traditional portion of the event. Both days ended with CCMS as the top team in the field of seven schools.
Clear Creek posted a seasonal dual record of 6-0 against league opponents to secure the top seed, and the Bobcats met the Lumpkin County Indians (5-1) in the finals.
CCMS earned nine wins against Lumpkin for a title-clinching score of 49-33.
Wrestling began at 72 pounds where Bobcat Carter Ortis won with a pin. LCMS picked up three points before they forfeited to Hayden Berry (86) and Bregan Berry (94).
Up 18-3, both Carson Farist (102) and Kade Miller (110) pinned for CCMS to increase its lead to 27 points.
The Indians won the next two bouts by pin and minor decision before Trace Morton (132) scored a minor decision, Elias Ramirez (139) majored and David Tercero (147) pinned.
With a 43-12 edge, and five bouts remaining, CCMS claimed its final six points at 165 where Angelo Spadaro pinned. LCMS won via minor decision at 155 and pinned at 180, 210 and 275 pounds.
At the traditional tournament Saturday, 15 Clear Creek wrestlers placed in the top four of their respective weight classes.
CCMS champions included Bregan Berry, Farist, Tercero and Spadaro.
Six more Bobcats advanced to the finals as well, and Ortis, Koby Kincaid (79), Hayden Berry, Morton, Ramirez and Israel Francisco (180) were crowned runners-up.
Aldin Tiniguar (125) was the next Bobcat placer in third, and teammates Miller, Alex Raymundo (125), Kaleb Davis (155) and Taylor Scheisser (275) all finished fourth.
Behind Clear Creek’s 138 points in the final standings were Lumpkin (96), Union (69), Pickens (66), Fannin (58), Dawson (52) and White (40).
CCMS wrestled Dalton at press deadline and will make its way to Chestatee Jan. 11 for the Middle School State Duals.
