Clear Creek Lady Cats split with Dawson

The Clear Creek Middle School Lady Cats were at home last Monday to host the Dawson County Tigers for a pair of basketball games.

The seventh-grade Cats took the court first and earned a 43-40 victory. The eighth-grade game followed and Dawson notched a 58-20 win.

Aliza Chastain scored 17 points for the seventh-grade Cats, but was held in check in the opening quarter. Madison Bradshaw and Gracie Pritchett both scored four in the first and Dawson opened a 10-8 lead.

Chastain, Carly Becerra, and Bree Burnette joined Pritchett on the scoring sheet in the second quarter, and the Cats slipped ahead  19-18 at halftime.

Chastain tallied seven points in the third and Burnette added a three, but DCMS was able to reclaim the lead, 30-29.

CCMS did just enough in the fourth as Chastain remained hot and added seven more points. Pritchett scored two from the field as well, and the rest of Clear Creek’s points came from the free-throw line and they won by three.

Aside from Chastain, Pritchett scored 10 points and Burnette added nine. Bradshaw finished the game with four and Becerra tallied three.

A tough third quarter put CCMS eighth graders out of the game. But through the first half, the Cats were still in it.

A strong first quarter by DCMS allowed the Tigers to open a 15-7 lead. Dawson maintained the same margin at the half, ahead, 21-13.

In the third, CCMS struggled offensively and only made a pair of free throws. Meanwhile, Dawson had its best quarter and put 19 more points on the board.

CCMS scored five points in the fourth and the Tigers’ offense had another productive quarter en route to their victory.

Libby Pike scored four points for CCMS as Lucy Ray, Katelynn Carder, Sarah Mulkey and Aliza Chastain all had three. Marly Boatwright and Carly Becerra both finished with two points.
