Clear Creek hosts annual XC championship race

A day before the high school race, Clear Creek hosted the North Georgia Middle School Championship.

The 3.2K cross-country course slinks around the CCMS campus and up and down its hills, and Fannin County finished atop the boys and girls standings.

The CCMS Bobcats placed third in their race while the Lady Cats landed in fourth.

Fannin’s Gavin Davis set the pace in the boys race and crossed the finish line in 12:46. Will Capstick was the first Clear Creek runner to finish, and he placed eighth in 14:35.

Runners who helped the Bobcats finish third included Boston Teague (14th, 15:20), Cameron Quinn (16th, 15:32), J.D. Taylor (20th, 16:06) and Cooper Farmer (22nd, 16:23).

Hayden Hand of Dawson County was the top female runner, and she clocked in at 13:46. 

Sophia Lykins (16:39) placed 11th for CCMS. Three more Cats landed in the top 20 and included Kamryn Baxter (13th, 17:00), Faith Goodwin (16th, 17:11) and Selma Gonzalez (19th, 17:55), while Yenifer Lopez took 21st in 18:34.

Remaining Lady Cat runners included Carly Becerra (26th, 19:13), Selena Alonzo (27th, 19:14), Imelda Jacinto (32nd, 19:25), Mylee Guzman (35th, 20:16), Audrey Adgate (37th, 20:28), Liz Gonzalez (48th, 22:52) and Lisa Reynoso (50th, 24:06).

Also running in the boys race were Bobcats Zander Shute (29th, 17:34), Dawson Richards (30th, 17:46), Gabe Watkins (41st, 19:38), Cooper Williams (43rd, 20:03), Orrin Todd (45th, 21:07), Riley Arend (46th, 21:08), Eddy Puac (54th, 25:16) and Cash Williams (55th, 27:04).

Fannin County boys took first place over Dawson County, 30-33. CCMS tallied 76 points and Union County (86) was fourth.

Fannin’s first place girls score was 30, Union (59) was second and followed by Dawson (64) and CCMS (80).
