Clear Creek Bobcats sweep Dawson Co.

The Clear Creek Bobcats snatched two more league basketball victories last week.

The seventh graders were up first and took care of business against the Dawson County Tigers, 52-37. The eighth graders were on the court next and the Bobcats came away with a 57-49 win.

The seventh-grade Bobcats’ early advantage ensured the Tigers never had a chance. Boston Teague and Keegen Bryant were the one-two punch the Bobcats needed to knock the Tigers down for the count.

Dawson did not score in the first, and CCMS opened a 10-0 lead. Teague and Bryant combined to score 11 points in the second quarter and Peyton Chancey added the other three as CCMS took a 24-11 lead into the half.

Bryant outscored Dawson by himself in the third quarter, 9-7. His effort was supplemented by Teague and Bubba Callihan and CCMS extended the margin to 40-18 with seven minutes to play.

While Dawson had its most productive quarter in the fourth, it was not enough to catch the Cats. Clear Creek got points from Teague, Bryant, Callihan, Chancey and Jaden Sevcech to cement the 15-point win.

Callihan added six points for CCMS, Chancey scored five and Sevcech had two.

Eight different Bobcats scored points in Clear Creek’s eighth-grade victory. Jackson McVey continued his strong season with 21 points and Talyn Curtis added 15.

McVey was there for eight points in the first quarter and totaled 12 in the half. Dawson flipped the script and pulled ahead 22-21 at halftime after trailing 19-14 following the first quarter.

The third was closely played and Curtis and McVey scored 10 of the Cats’ 14 points. James Wright and Cooper Farmer accounted for the remaining four, and the Tigers maintained a 37-35 lead entering the fourth.

Curtis tallied eight in the fourth, and all six of Bryant’s points came over the game’s final seven minutes. McVey and Teague also continued to score points to help complete the Bobcats’ come-from-behind victory.

Farmer, Wright, Teague, Will Capstick, Haden West and J.D. Taylor all added two points apiece on the day.

The Bobcats’ game versus Fannin County last Thursday was postponed to Jan. 6.
