CCMS softball, volleyball round-up

Errors plagued Clear Creek softball all day.

The Lady Cats hosted the Dawson County Tigers for their home opener last Tuesday. The game was called after four innings as CCMS errors mounted and the Tigers took advantage for a 18-6 win.

The Cats committed three straight errors to start the game but escaped the top of the first unscathed.

CCMS did not waste any time when it came to bat and took a 2-0 lead when Sierra Williams smacked a two-run triple to the gap in right center field. An ensuing error saw the Cats enjoy a 3-0 lead.

Fielding and throwing errors came in bunches in the second. The Tigers also had five hits and jumped ahead, 10-3.

The Cats responded with two runs in their half. Phoenix Addie singled home a run and Williams did the same. Clear Creek’s defense did show improvement in the third inning but the Tigers managed four more hits and extended their lead to 13-5.

Dawson tacked on five more runs in the fourth. CCMS scored its final run when Addie reached on a fielder’s choice to score Gracie Smith who tripled to left.

CCMS began the season a week prior against Pickens Middle School and lost to the Dragonettes, 13-0.

Clear Creek volleyball is off to a 3-1 start. The Cats nabbed victories against Lumpkin County, Dawson County and Pickens and lost to Fannin.
