5 GHS basketball players voted all-region

Five Gilmer High basketball players were voted to all-region basketball teams.

On the girls side, first-team selections included senior guards Hope Colwell and Emma Callihan and junior post player Elly Callihan. Senior post player Emma Deyton received an honorable mention.

Bobcat junior center Cade Carter was voted to the all-region boys squad.

Elly Callihan led the Lady Cats with 17.3 points per game, 9.2 rebounds and shot 67.8 percent from the free-throw line. She also nabbed 56 steals on the year and blocked 26 shots.

Emma Callihan was there for 12.6  points, 5.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.3 steals per game while making 64.1 percent of free throws.

Colwell dished 2.6 assists per game and nabbed 2.3 steals. She averaged 6.4 points and shot 59.7 percent from the line.

Deyton scored 8.5 points and pulled down 7.2 rebounds per game. She led the Cats with a 43.2 field goal percentage and drew 19 charges on the season.

Carter led the Bobcats with a  59 percent shooting percentage and ranked second with 11.8 points in 17 games. He also recorded 7.6 rebounds per game and blocked 25 shots on the season.
