The Gilmer Sports Hall of Fame will induct its 2019 class at Friday’s basketball games against LaFayette.
Entering the hall of fame will be Amanda Parker (GHS class of 1999), the late 1st. Lt. Noah Harris (’99) and Mark Pettit (’79).
Parker was a basketball, softball and golf letter winner. She lettered four years in all three sports and is Gilmer’s all-time leading scorer on the basketball court with 2,112 career points.
Harris earned varsity letters in football, wrestling, track and golf. He posted a career wrestling record of 104 wins and five losses, won a wrestling state championship and was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Pettit will enter the hall of fame under the “support” category for his 30-year career as a GHS football and wrestling coach. Pettit Field at Huff-Mosley Memorial Stadium was named in honor of Mark and his brother John Pettit.
Each inductee’s full biography and list of accomplishments will appear in next week’s Times-Courier along with photos from the induction ceremony.
The induction ceremony will take place Friday at the GHS gym in between the girls and boys varsity basketball games. The girls tipoff is set for 7 p.m. and the ceremony will directly follow.
