Five local youth baseball players put their talent on display over Labor Day weekend.
Gilmer’s Peyton Ocobock, River Rayborn, Lance West, Keegan Brookshire and Brandon Harrell were all selected to play in the Future Pro Baseball (FPB) World Series in Augusta.
Both Ocobock and Rayborn were named to the All-American second team.
All five play on RBI Baseball League teams. During the season, they accrued points based on a statistics. Certain point levels unlock different status levels.
Ocobock played for the 13-under North Georgia Legends to begin the season before finishing with North Georgia Valor. He achieved 70 FPB points and was awarded Silver Status.
He helped his Atlanta RBI team win the 13U FPB World Series title.
Rayborn and Brookshire played for the 12U Hitting Lab based out of Ellijay, and they also won a World Series title. Rayborn achieved Turquoise Status and topped out with 50 points. In addition to All-American honors, Rayborn received the Golden Glove Award for his defensive prowess.
Brookshire tallied 21 FPB points for Sapphire Status and was awarded a pair of Golden Gloves.
West took the field for the 9U Gilmer Bobcats travel team. He capped his season with Turquoise Status as well and racked up 59 points.
Harrell suited up for the 13U North Georgia Legends and achieved Emerald Status with 32 points.
Gilmer’s players faced teams from Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee at the World Series.
