Gimena Tercero was a member of Gilmer High’s inaugural flag football team, and she is the program’s first to play in the college ranks.
Tercero is a 2026 GHS honor graduate and will attend Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Much like her senior year at GHS, she will join the Bees for the program’s first season.
She originally planned to study at SCAD’s Atlanta campus, but once flag football came into the picture, it set her destination on another course.
“I’ve been planning since my junior year to go to SCAD, and I noticed they had multiple campuses,” Tercero said. “They had one in Atlanta, and I was planning on going there to be closer to my family.”
“I got introduced into playing in high school by coach (Chad) Miller and I was really interested,” she said. “I tried out and then I had an amazing season with the girls. Once the season ended, coach Miller asked if I was interested in playing flag football for SCAD.”
The flag football team at SCAD resides at its Savannah campus.
“I couldn't let this type of opportunity go, and I have to take the opportunity God always gives me, so I decided to take the opportunity and this offer and play flag football in Savannah,” Tercero said.
Tercero played running back and was a scoring threat for the Cats. Defensively, she took the field at linebacker. GHS posted a 5-6 record in its inaugural season and just missed qualifying for the state playoffs.
“I just want to thank my parents for letting me have this opportunity to play flag football, and letting me continue to grow, and for the girls for supporting me throughout the season,” Tercero said. “(I also want to thank) Coach Miller for being there for me during flag, and giving me this great opportunity.”
