Helen’s Mountain Invitational was the latest stop for Gilmer High cross-country runners.
The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats attended the annual 5K last Tuesday and squared off against 31 teams. The Bobcats finished 25th overall, while Clarke Central won the event, and Gladiator runner Beck Wolf-Hardy led the way in 16:10.
The Bobcats’ quintet of point scorers saw Michael Little lead the pack in 81st place with a time of 19:00. Behind Bobcat Talyn Mesner in 110th at 19:32 were teammates Eder Martinez (138th, 20:20), Larz Fowler (164th, 21:28) and Christopher Chun-Bell (179th, 22:12).
Gilmer’s Max New finished in 23:36 for 191st, while Will Capstick placed 200th in 25:32.
The girls race was won by Habersham Centrals’ Audrey Hotard in 19:38. There were four Lady Cats in attendance and included Amalia Raymundo (93rd, 25:04), Kamryn Baxter (98th, 25:14), Helana Garland (113rd, 25:45) and Carly Becerra (145th, 27:39).
North Hall was the top girls team (58 points) ahead of Dawson County (93) and White County (109). Behind Clarke Central (70) in the boys top three were Greater Atlanta Christian (114) and Chestatee (160).
GHS will head to Fort Mountain Oct. 13 for its next race.
