The GHS Lady Cats were on the road to take on Putnam Count in the state preliminaries and won, 47-30.
GHS was still without two starters because of injury, and several wrestlers had to move up a weight class to fill gaps, according to head coach Stacy Galloway.
Securing wins for Gilmer were Gracie Cox, Salma Gonzalez, Abelinda Tercero, Gladys Lopez, Estephany Becerra, LucyAnn McArthur, Juana Tercero-Rafael and Erika Tercero.
The win improved the Cats’ dual record to 9-3. GHS will be seeded No. 3 at Saturday’s eight-team state duals.
“Overall, we’ve had a very successful year so far, and we’re excited to carry that momentum into state duals this Saturday at Lumpkin,” Galloway said.
“We will open with Pierce County. We feel confident in our ability to place this year, especially with the potential return of a couple injured wrestlers, which would allow us to fill every weight class for the first time this season. With a full lineup and everyone wrestling at their best, we’re excited and ready to compete at state duals.”
