Gilmer High School tennis continued it region schedule with a win.
Gilmer made its way to West Hall last Wednesday to face the Spartans. The Lady Cats came away with a 3-2 victory, while the Bobcats lost, 4-1.
The Lady Cats picked up a victory in the No. 2 singles match where Ollie Burnett won 6-0, 6-1. GHS then secured its victory on the doubles court. First up was the tandem of Madison Bradshaw and Lucy Ray, who won the first set, 6-0. WHHS did put up more of a fight in the second, but Ray and Bradshaw went on to win, 6-4.
On the No. 2 doubles court, Chelsey Griggs and Bree Burnette took care of business, 6-3, 6-2, for Gilmer’s first region win.
West Hall claimed the No. 1 singles match over Lyla Engle (6-1, 6-1) and No. 3 singles match versus Charlotte Davenport (6-4, 6-3).
For the Bobcats, No. 2 doubles Alex Miltiades and Victor Bennett’s scores of 6-2, 6-3 got Gilmer on the board. The top doubles team of Larz Fowler and Kolby Reece won their first set, 6-2, but dropped the next two, 6-2, 6-2.
Nathan Hall also won his first set 6-4 in the No. 3 singles slot before losses of 6-2 and 6-4. No. 1 Eder Martinez (6-0, 6-3) and No. 2 Rylan Freeman (6-1, 6-0) both fell to the Spartans.
GHS hosted archrival Pickens a day prior, and the Lady Cats and Bobcats both lost. The Lady Cats are 3-3 on the season, and the Bobcats have a 2-4 record.
Gilmer faced White County at press deadline and will travel to Lumpkin Thursday for a 4 p.m. match.
