Gilmer High is set for a return to the Class 3A cross-country championships.
GHS was at Heritage High School last Saturday, and the sectional meet welcomed teams from four regions. The Lady Cats (268 points) placed 10th to qualify for state, and they were the No. 1 team from Region 7-3A.
The Bobcats just missed a state berth as they finished 14th in the boys standings with 387 points.
Jennifer Garcia was first to finish the 5K course for the Lady Cats, and she placed 16th overall at 20:52.30. Allison Hernandez was next in 44th with a time of 22:42.50 and followed by teammates Salma Gonzalez (53rd, 23:15.53), Jayla Walker (71st, 24:13.03), Lauren Smith (84th, 25:14.21), Estephany Becerra (85th, 25:15.18) and Liz Gonzalez (86th, 25:18.80).
Dawson led the way for the Bobcats in 17:53.80 for 30th. Seth Turner clocked in at 19:12.16 for 73rd. Leeland Dantin finished 84th at 19:36.40 and was trailed by teammates Eddie Alonzo (88th, 19:44.17), Jacob Pantoja (112th, 21:07.71), Edward Marietta (130th, 22:03.01) and Alex Alonzo (137th, 23:00.20).
The GHSA state meet will be Saturday at Carrollton High School.
