Gilmer swimmers attended the Cherokee County Champs Meet for the penultimate event of the regular season.
The three-team event was held last Thursday at the Cherokee Aquatic Center, and the Gilmer Swim Team placed second on the girls side and third in the boys standings.
Lady Cats
Rosalie Ballew and Addison Potter swam in the 15-18 age group and were joined by Kaley Best and Julianne Guidry for relays. They placed second in both the 200-yard medley (3:12.13) and the 200 freestyle relay (3:04.12).
Ballew finished third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:52.94, was fourth in the 50-yard free (51.97) and fifth in the 50-yard backstroke (1:13.64).
Potter claimed third in the 50 free in 46.20 and 100-yard individual medley at 2:04.20. She also took fourth in the 50-yard backstroke (54.84).
Best and Guidry swam in the 13-14 age group individually, and the former was third in the 100 free (1:28.31), second in the 50 back (52.30) and fourth in the 50 free (40.83).
Guidry swam the 50 back and landed in third with a time of 55.42. She finished fifth in the 100 free in 1:40.72 and sixth in the 50 free in 42.95.
Sophia DeMarco strung together a trio of top finishes in the 11–12 age division’s 100 free (1:03.12), 50 free (27.50) and 50 breast (38.56).
Saylor Clinard claimed third place in the 100 free (1:21.50) and 50 free (35.56) and earned a fifth-place finish in the 50 breast (56.90).
DeMarco and Cinard were half of the second place 200 free relay (2:03.25) team in the 13–14 age bracket and third in the mixed 200 medley relay (3:14.10).
Jacey Burney, Braylee Green and Ava Williamson earned first place in both the mixed 11–12 200 medley relay (3:56.67) and mixed 200 free relay (2:45.24). Burney placed third in the 50 fly (52.22), seventh in the 50 free (42.16) and eighth in the 50 breast (1:02.28).
Green secured fifth in the 50 back (1:00.35), sixth in the 50 breast (1:00.13) and eighth in the 50 free with a time of 42.38.
Williamson also placed fourth in the 50 back in 51.06, fifth in the 50 free (38.29) and seventh in the 50 breast at 1:02.04.
Breelin Coleman placed sixth in 50 back with a time of 1:08.72 and 10th in the 50 free at 58.97.
Kathryn Edelson and Calissa Shoilekov won the 9-10 age’s 100 medley relay in 2:24.58. They were joined by 7-8-year-old swimmers Henlee Martin and Felicity Faulk.
Edelson nabbed first place in both the 25 breast with a time of 26.44 and 100 IM (1:57.16). She placed third in the 25-yard free (19.53).
Violet Faulk was fifth in the 25 (46.75) 10th in the 25 back (37.73) and ninth in the 25 free (30.09).
Shoilekov finished as runner-up in the 50 free in 44.45 and second in the 25 back (26.75).
Harlen Gray was No. 1 in the 25 back (24.00). She finished second in the 25 fly in 26.51. In 25 free, she was fourth with a time of 19.55.
Harper Hoover placed fourth in the 25 back (29.85). In the 50 free, she finished sixth in 54.60 and seventh in the 25 free at 22.25.
Violet Klein, Violet Faulk, and Gray swam individually in the 7-8 age bracket but were three quarters of the 9-10’s mixed 100 free (1:49.85) relay team.
Martin took second in the 25 back (30.45), fifth in the 50 free (1:08.14) and 25 free (27.59).
Scarlet Edelson, Laken Johnstone, Sadie Mae Rice and Willow Shoilekov were runners-up in the 100 medley relay (2:37.09) and 100 free relay (2:13.00).
Edelson finished fourth individually in the 25 breast (39.56), fifth in the 25 back (34.72) and sixth in the 25 free with a time of 28.60.
Johnstone placed second in the 25 fly (37.66) and 10th in the 25 free (31.72).
Rice earned first place in the 25 fly in 36.06. She was also 12th in the 25 back (48.00) and 14th in the 25 free (36.72).
Felicity Klein placed second in the 25 breast at 37.41. She finished sixth in the 50 free (1:13.21) and 14th in the 25 free (35.02).
Shoilekov took eighth in the 25 back in 36.86, 10th in the 50 free (1:39.62) and 12th in the 25 free at 33.67.
Violet Klein was fourth in the 100 IM (2:22.16) and 25 fly (30.09) and eighth in the 25 free (25.19).
Lakota Rezmer was a member of the mixed 9-10 100 medley (2:00.19) and second-place 100 free (1:55.23) relays. She also finished ninth in the 50 free (1:18.44), 11th in the 25 free (32.60) and 25 back in 40.10.
Bobcats
Rylee Fountain and Jacob Watson swam in the 13-14-year old division for the Bobcats.
They helped the mixed 13-14 200 free relay team take second (2:03.25) and the 200 mixed medley team finish third (3:14.10).
Fountain was also third in the 100 free (1:12.71) and 100 IM (1:35.12) and fourth in the 50 free in 30.86.
Emmett Patterson and Ryder Johnstone swam in the 11-12 age division but aided in the 13-14 age group to take first in the 200 free relay at 3:46.33 and second in the 200 medley relay (3:46.33).
Patterson was second in the 50 breast (53.74), fourth in the 50 back in 52.50 and ninth in the 50 free (41.98).
Johnstone placed fourth in the 100 freestyle (1:22.86), fifth in the 100 IM (1:46.80) and sixth in the 50 free (37.27).
Joel Newton and Becket Gray were the other half of the first place mixed medley relay (3:56.67) and free 200 free (2:45.24 relay teams.
Gray claimed fifth in the 50 back (54.74), seventh in the 100 free (1:37.15) and eighth in the 50 free (41.87). Newton was 11th in the 50 free (1:09.39).
Hunter Carmichael finished sixth in the 50 back (1:08.87), eighth in the 100 free (2:03.86) and 10th in the 50 free (59.82).
Asher Faulk and Grayson Patterson made up part of the second place relay teams in the 100 mixed medley (2:00.19) and 100 free (1:55.23). Faulk turned in runner-up times of 2:11.10 and 27.79 in the 100 IM and 25 fly, respectively.
Patterson placed second in the 25 breast (26.94), fourth in the 25 fly (20.79) and sixth in the 25 back in 1:26.47.
Ryland Homan and Boone Silas were half of the top mixed 100 free (1:49.85) and fourth-place medley relays in 2:09.09. Homan placed fourth in the 25 back (29.92), eighth in the 50 free (1:00.56), and 10th in the 25 free at 27.73.
Silas was seventh in both the 25 breast (39.35) and 25 back (1:44.14) and 11th in the 25-yard freestyle (30.66).
Gus Moore, 10, helped earn first in the 13-14’s 200 free relay at 3:46.33 and second in the 200 medley relay (3:46.33). He placed fourth in the 50 free (55.43), sixth in the 25 breast (35.40) and ninth in the 25 free (26.42).
Cartersville (1,523.5 points) was No.1 in the boys standings followed by Cherokee (543) and Gilmer (649.5). Cartersville nipped the Lady Cats 1,153-1,125, and Cherokee was third with 668.
The Mountain Championships will be in Ellijay July 25.
