Gilmer High golfers wrapped up the regular season with a pair of nine-hole matches.
The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats were on the course for matches last Tuesday and Wednesday.
GHS was on its home course at Whitepath against Union County. The Lady Cats snagged a 152-160 victory, and the Bobcats were defeated, 191-202.
Girls matches used the top three scores, and Lady Cat Clara Smith kept the season’s theme going and was the best golfer with a 44. Remaining scores belonged to Anna Waddell (52), Elly Callihan (56) and Kiley Callihan (63).
The top-four boys scores were used to determine the team scores, and Bobcats Grant Ballew and Carson Bentley’s 48s were followed by Gabe Lifsey (50), Caden Stover (52), Luke Janssen (54), Cole Powell (56) and Hudson Gearhart (60).
Gilmer ended the week Wednesday at Big Canoe. Pickens’ and Fannin’s scores were not available, but the Lady Cats posted a 143, and the Bobcats completed the course in 196 strokes.
Smith was the low medalist and had her best round of the season with a 38. E. Callihan scored a 50, Waddell had a 55 and K. Callihan shot a 59.
Ballew continued to be the Bobcats’ low scorer with a 42. Stover had a 48 and was followed by Lifsey (52), Bentley (54), Janssen (57), Powell (58) and Gearhart (59).
A week prior, Gilmer hosted Pickens April 11 at Whitepath. The Bobcats lost 176-193, while the Lady Cats fell, 137-155.
Lifsey had the best day for the Bobcats with a 47, followed closely by Ballew (48), and Bentley and Hershel Defoor, who both finished with 49s. Stover had a 51 as Powell and Gearhart each posted a 60.
Smith led the way for the Lady Cats with a 46. Waddell shot a 48, while E. Callihan turned in a 61 and K. Callihan posted a 63.
GHS was in Union County April 12 to take on the Panthers at Butternut Golf Course. The Lady Cats secured a 157-162 win, and the Bobcats lost, 179-209.
Smith was the low medalist once more with a 44 followed by Waddell (55), E. Callihan (58) and K. Callihan (60). Bobcat scores included Ballew (47), Bentley (52), Lifsey (53), Defoor (57), Stover (58), Janssen (59) and both Powell and Gearhart shot a 63.
The Lady Cats made the trek to Chattahoochee Golf Club April 14 and dropped the match to North Hall, 138-161. Smith’s 44 was the best for GHS as Waddell finished with a 56 and K. Callihan and E. Callihan had respective scores of 60 and 63.
