Gilmer cross-country runners hit the trail for two more meets.
The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats hosted the North Georgia Championships last Tuesday. The annual 5K took place on the course at Clear Creek Middle School, and the Bobcats placed fourth out of six teams with 124 points.
Gilmer was in Canton Saturday for the Warpath Invitational, and the Bobcats landed in 28th place with 803 team points. The Lady Cats were in attendance at both meets but did not have enough runners to qualify for a team score.
Michael Little led the Bobcats’ charge at home Tuesday. He clocked in at 20:56 for 15th place while teammate Talyn Mesner was four spots behind in 19th at 21:31. Larz Fowler was next in 27th in 22:42, and Eder Martinez set a seasonal best time of 23:02 in 29th.
Will Capstick (26:28.90, 45th place) also scored team points for GHS, and he was followed by Matthew Hennessee (27:39.80, 51st) and Max New (27:43.20, 52nd).
The Lady Cats were closely bunched and included Helana Garland (27:03.60, 20th), Kamryn Baxter (28:50.90, 28th), Jayla Walker (29:35.70, 30th) and Amalia Raymundo (30:19.60, 34th).
Dawson County (38 points) clipped Union County (47) for first place in the girls race, and Lumpkin County finished third (68). Dawson also won on the boys side over Lumpkin, 30-36, and Union took third (84).
Bobcat runners’ placement and times in Canton included Mesner (18:16.77, 89th), Fowler (20:55.55, 177th), New (21:53.41, 183rd), Hennessee (23:20.31, 189th), Capstick (24:01.67, 190th) and Daniel Gonzalez (25:52.37, 191st).
Lady Cat finishers were Raymundo (25:00.86, 146th), Walker (25:01.86, 147th) and Baxter (25.58.72, 161st).
Marist (50), St. Pius (69) and North Hall led the way in the girls 5K, and the top three boys teams included Denmark (109), Etowah (135) and Oconee County (170).
