The latest 5K race took Gilmer High cross-country runners to Cartersville.
The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats made the trip last Saturday for the annual Wingfoot Classic.
There were three different competing classifications, and GHS runners faced teams in the B division. The Bobcats placed 26th out of 29 teams with 683 points. The Lady Cats were a runner shy of qualifying for a team score.
Fideles Christian School’s Jacob Tarkington won the boys 5K by two tenths of a second in 16:30. Talyn Mesner was Gilmer’s highest finisher at the event, and he turned in a time of 18:52 for 61st place. Bobcat Michael Little was next in 117th place in 20:01.
Remaining Bobcat runners included Max New (23:09, 162rd), Matthew Hennessee (23:16, 164th), Daniel Gonzalez (25:10, 178th) and Will Capstick (25:50, 181st).
Lilla Kate Tucker of Campbell High won the girls B division 5K in 19:41.20. Following Lady Cat Helana Garland (24:43.60, 83rd) were teammates Jayla Walker (25:59.40, 103rd), Kamryn Baxter (26:27.90, 111th) and Carly Becerra (30:12, 139th).
Northview was the top girls team over Glynn Academy, 69-95, and Peachtree Ridge took third (101). Glynn Academy (108) won on the boys side as Lowdens was second over Chattahoochee, 143-162.
