Gilmer faced the region’s best tennis team to end the regular season.
The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats hosted Wesleyan last Tuesday, and the visiting Wolves were undefeated on the day.
Wesleyan won all 10 matches in straight sets. The Bobcat tandem of Larz Fowler and Kolby Reece had the most success on the No. 1 doubles court. After dropping the first set 6-1, they lost the second, 7-5.
Alex Miltiades and Victor Bennett made up the No. 2 doubles and lost without winning a game. Top Bobcat single Eder Martinez and No. 2 Rylan Freeman both lost, 6-1, 6-0, while Nathan Hall was defeated 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 3 position.
No. 2 Lady Cat doubles Chelsey Griggs and Bree Burnette won a pair of games in a 6-1, 6-1 loss. No. 1 single Ollie Burnett and No. 3 Lyric Lowman both lost, 6-1, 6-0. Wesleyan secured wins of 6-0, 6-0 against No. 2 single Lyla Engle and No. 1 doubles Lucy Ray and Madison Bradshaw.
The defeat dropped the Lady Cats’ record to 4-5, while the Bobcats are 3-6. The region tournament got underway at the University of North Georgia at press deadline.
