Gilmer High School tennis endured a first-round exit from the region tennis tournament.
The GHS Bobcats and Lady Cats attended the event last Tuesday in Dahlonega, and both faced the Cherokee Bluff Bears.
The Bobcats were seeded eighth and lost to the top-ranked Bears, 5-0. The Lady Cats were seeded seventh in the girls tournament and dropped their match 5-0 to No. 2 seeded CBHS.
Gilmer’s No. 2 single Law Lykins managed to win four games in his 6-4, 6-0 defeat. His fellow teammates were not as fortunate as No. 1 single Ethan Cole and No. 3 single Rylan Freeman both lost 6-0, 6-0.
Both doubles matches concluded with the same score, as the Bears downed Gilmer’s Ethan Banks and J.D. Taylor and Eder Martinez and Larz Fowler 6-0, 6-1.
The Lady Cats’ doubles teams found the most success versus CBHS. The tandem of Jessica Futch and Ellie Teague, along with the duo of Madison Bradshaw and Lucy Ray each lost 6-3, 6-4.
The Bears secured a 6-2, 6-2 victory over No. 1 Lady Cat Ollie Burnett. Lyla Engle lost 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 spot, and No. 3 single Lyric Lowman dropped her match 6-1, 6-1.
The losses brought an end to the Bobcats’ and Lady Cats’ seasons, and they posted respective overall records of 5-10 and 4-11.
