Gilmer High swimmers got in the holiday spirit at Cherokee County’s Gobble Invite.
The eight-team meet was held Nov. 15, and the GHS Lady Cats placed fifth (42 points) and the Bobcats landed in eighth (nine).
The Lady Cats competed in five relays. Lana Ginger, Elizabeth Kucera, Evan May and Addison Potter teamed up in the 400-yard freestyle relay for fifth in 6:10.70. Rosalie Ballew, Destiny Lester, Alexandra Shull and Abigail Tello-Junco swam in the event as well and were sixth at 8:24.72.
In the 200 medley relay, Kucera, Evan May, Yana Jones and Remy May claimed ninth place in 2:47.26.
Two Lady Cat teams competed in the 200 free relay. Rosalie Ballew, Yana Jones, Destiny Lester and Addison Potter placed 11th (2:56.33), while Remy May, Lana Ginger, Alexandra Shull and Abigail Tello-Junco were 12th (3:08.28).
Evan May scored six points for the Lady Cats with a sixth-place finish in the 500 free (8:07.51). Kucera clocked an eighth-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:24.87.
Ballew swam a 45.69 in the 50-yard freestyle (32nd place) and a 1:48.84 in the 100 free (34th).
Ginger placed 26th in 100 (1:48.84), 11th in the 200 free (2:56.33). Jones turned in a time of 32.33 in the 50 free for 13th and was 34th in the 200 free (1.48.84).
Lester swam the 50 (49.88, 36th) and 100 free (2:03.22, 37th).
Remy May recorded a 42.63 in the 50 free (29th) and a 1:37.68 in the 100 free (31st). Potter turned in a time of 43.76 in the 50 free (31st) and competed in the 100 back (1:55.47), placing 18th.
Shull swam the 100 free in 1:57.67 for 36th. Tello-Junco posted times of 53.74 in the 50 free (37th) and 2:05.75 in the 100 free (38th).
On the boys’ side, Rylee Fountain turned in the top performance with nine points with a fourth-place finish in the 200 free (2:27.88). He was 26th in the 50 free (29.50) and placed 24th in the 100 free (1:06.12).
Kanyon Connel was 17th in the 50 free (27.41) and a 18th in the 100 free (1:04.12). Clifford DeFoor swam the 50 free in 38.65 (42nd) and the 100 breast in 2:10.21 for 14th.
Results from last Thursday’s meet in Calhoun were not available by the early Thanksgiving deadline.
